HistoryThe Charlotte Hornets are a professional basketball team in the NBA founded in 1988 by entrepreneur George Shinn. The Hornets struggled in their first season in the NBA, getting a 20-62 record. Charlotte's struggles continued the next season as well with a 19-63 record. In 1991, the Hornets drafted PF Larry Johnson. Johnson and forward Kendall Gill were a good duo, but Charlotte needed more depth. In 1992, the Hornets drafted C Alonzo Mourning. Johnson and Mourning were a beastly duo in the frontcourt. in the 1994-95 season, the Hornets made it to the playoffs for the first time, but were swept by the Bulls. Afterwards, Mourning was traded to the Miami Heat for SF Glen Rice. In 1996, the Hornets drafted Kobe Bryant, but traded him away for C Vlade Divac. Things only got worse from there. PG Muggsy Bogues was traded and so was Glen Rice. In 2002, the Hornets moved the franchise to New Orleans. In 2004, the city of Charlotte had basketball again with the Bobcats franchise created. However, the Bobcats only made the playoffs once, which resulted in a sweep by the Orlando Magic. That same season the franchise ownership was acquired by MIchael Jordan. In 2014, the New Orleans Hornets changed their name to the Pelicans after the request from Jordan to change the name back to the Hornets. Charlotte missed the playoffs the first year but clinched a berth the second, losing in Game 7 to the Miami Heat.
